Professor in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, since 2014, Daniela Ionescu received her medical degree in 1989 from the same university. As a young anesthesiologist, she spent time abroad as a visiting fellow in Leeds (1 year), Plymouth, Cambridge (UK), Rouen (France), and Tel Aviv (Israel).

She is currently the Head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and of the Clinical Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the Institute for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Cluj-Napoca, where she works as an anesthesiologist and intensivist.

She is the Past Chair of Forum 1 – General Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (Chair until 2023). She is also a member of the Board of the Romanian Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (since 2002) and the Board of Directors of World SIVA (Society of Intravenous Anaesthesia). She is a member of the Outcome Research Consortium, Cleveland, USA, Chair of the Onco-Anaesthesia Group – ESAIC since 2023, and Chair of the Association for Research in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Cluj-Napoca.

Daniela Ionescu has authored and co-authored over 130 publications, 59 of which are in ISI indexed journals. Her Hirsch index (ISI Web of Science) is 17.

She has secured a total of 1.2 million euros in grant funding and is a member of the Steering Committee of two international grants.

Her main research interests include the influence of anaesthetic interventions on perioperative outcomes in surgical cancer patients, haemodynamic monitoring in cirrhotic patients, bacterial resistance in ICUs, and postoperative delirium.

Prof. Ionescu has been an invited speaker at numerous prestigious international anaesthesia meetings.
