SIKORA Normunds
Normunds Sikora has finished his residency in cardiac surgery in 2008. Afterwards he has completed his PhD in Riga Stradins University. He has done efforts to improve the quality of cardiopulmonary bypass in cardiac surgery in Latvia working as cardiac surgeon and specialist in cardiopulmonary bypass in Clinic for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, Children’s University Hospital before and in Latvian Cardiac Centre P.Stradins Clinical University Hospital, Riga, Latvia currently. He is also an assistant professor in Riga Stradins University, Department of Surgery. He has established the national Education program in Cardiovascular Perfusion being its Director at the Riga Stradins University Red Cross Medical College currently. This program is offered also for international students in English. He has established Latvian Society of Cardiopulmonary Bypass and is its president at the moment. He is also the General Secretary of the European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion as well as national delegate of Latvia. Currently he is the chair of EBCP taskforce of ongoing EACTS-EACTAIC-EBCP guideline project “Blood product management in pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass” and the member of EBCP taskforce of EACTS-EACTAIC-EBCP guideline project “Guidelines on cardiopulmonary bypass in pediatric cardiac surgery” He has a number of publications in different local and international medical journals. Research interest Cardiopulmonary bypass, intraoperative myocardial protection, pediatric cardiac surgery, transfusion of blood products, cardiopulmonary bypass education
